Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday! It’s goose season here in the Pacific Northwest. The office in which I work is a step away from a nature path that runs along a river. Geese love that setup. They also love nesting, swimming and chasing unsuspecting animal lovers who try to quietly walk past without disturbing them.
Geese chased. I ran. Coworkers laughed. I burned off some calories. No one was injured. Good times were had by all.
So that happened.
This episode of goosery, public exercise and general shenanigans has nothing to do with this week’s writing prompt, but I hope you enjoy it anyway. Continue reading
Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday! (I really enjoy doing this series; I hope you’re having fun with it, too.)
Last week I finished a book about demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren, and in that book, they explained that the first stage of a demon infestation includes sounds of barking, scratching, knocks and thumps, and that it also includes foul-smelling odors. For several days before reading about that, I’d been hearing barking, scratching, knocks and thumps, and smelling a foul odor in one particular spot in my home.
For a hot moment, I was concerned because I’m a writer with an active imagination and I’d been having a crappy week so why not think there’s a demon in my home? Maybe it could do something about the hornet’s next by the door.
Turns out my upstairs neighbor got a puppy, and I needed to take out the trash. Crisis averted.

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday! This week I was surprised at work. I won an Excellence Award, which includes a certificate, a trophy and a cash bonus. While those are lovely and deeply appreciated, I appreciate them more because of the person who nominated me. His opinion carries weight. He doesn’t give compliments cheaply. His friendship is earned, not freely given. For him to nominate me is a high compliment. For others to approve it (and for so many people to congratulate me) means more than the award itself.
People are looking even when you don’t realize it. And they’re talking.

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday! This week is brought to you by my on-the-spot imagination. As in, I saw something, took a picture and thought “Gee, this would make an excellent writing prompt.” I stopped for flowers and went home with so much more.
Ready? On to this week’s writing prompt… Continue reading
Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday! This is the week before Tax Day here in the U.S. A week in which procrastinators can’t put off doing their taxes without penalties (been there). And those who’ve done their taxes feel at least a little smug, even if they end up owing the IRS money (done that).
It’s almost like a delayed Groundhog Day, but without freedom from consequences or Bill Murray’s comedic genius.
