Writing Prompt Friday (thanks)

RDCW_WPF_Bridge

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday! Next week is Thanksgiving here in the U.S. Which means everyone and their parrot is chiming “be thankful” and “count your blessings” and instructing everyone else to list everything for which they’re thankful. I’m all for gratitude. I also think that an important aspect of gratitude gets lost in the shuffle: gratitude to ourselves.

Seriously, when was the last time you told yourself “thank you” for being the amazing person you are? (I’m assuming.) Or for doing that super-cool thing you did? Or for getting yourself through a tough time? Or for helping someone who didn’t say thank you for whatever reason?

Small things or large, take a moment to thank yourself for getting yourself this far in life. Because that’s no tiny undertaking.

On to this week’s prompt…

Write a Thank You letter to yourself.

No limit on length.

Want to share your writing prompt result? Share in the comments.

Yours, Ducky

Being thankful this Thanksgiving

thankyou

Sometimes it’s hard to be thankful. For millions of us (myself included), these past few weeks have been one of those times. Adding to some other upheaval that’s been going on in my life for the past seven months, I’ve had days I just wanted to curl up with my teddy bear and not come out from under the covers for the rest of the week.

(Seriously, what’s up, Universe? Do you need a hug? Or a vacation?)

But instead of writing a political post or a personal post, I’m going to put some gratitude back out into the universe.

Because I think we can all use a little goodness right now. Continue reading

Happy Thanksgiving (2014 Edition)

Rubber Ducky' Copywriter's Ducks

Happy Thanksgiving, dear readers.

Last year, I made a list of why I’m thankful to be a writer. This year, while I’m gearing up to fix a big dinner and give thanks for all of the awesomeness in my life, I’d like to take a moment to thank you.

Thank you for taking the time to stop by and read my blog.

Thank you for every comment, tip, pointer, joke and perspective.

Thank you for every time you tweet or share one of my posts.

Thank you for “following” and inviting me into your inbox.

Thank you for helping make it worthwhile to keep this blog up.

Thank you for the insightful, helpful and sometimes humorous posts you’ve put up on your own blogs.

Thank you for your support, well wishes and occasionally pointing out a typo.

Thank you, new followers, for stopping by and coming back.

Thank you, longer-time followers, for keeping up this long.

Readership of any size is a privilege, not a right. And I appreciate you.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Erica “Ducky” Hayes

Thankful to be a writer

I'm glad I'm a writer.Thanksgiving is almost here. For those of you who live outside the U.S., it’s a national holiday during which we gather together with our families, eat ourselves silly and get ready to go hardcore Christmas shopping the next day.

And it’s a time we give thanks for our many blessings.

Now, I expect to see a lot of writers, bloggers and content strategists to post their own Thanksgiving-related content to get some search engine love and that’s fine.

But since this is the first downtime I’ve had in the past few weeks, I’m going to just be honest. And list why I’m thankful to be a writer. Continue reading
