writing prompt friday: happy tale

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday. I live outside Seattle, which like most cities on the American West Coast, has been struggling. Fires. Protests. Worst air quality ever, which has made me pretty sick.

I’m fortunate. And grateful. Very grateful. We’re okay. But it leads into this week’s writing prompt, which I think everyone could use right now.

Write the happiest story you can imagine.

Make it at least 500 words.

Any topic. Any characters. Any theme. Whatever you want. But just when you think your story can’t get happier, add something to make it happier.

For example, maybe a zombie princess mermaid fairy finally wins the Miss Universe contest… AND takes home a Nobel Prize for saving unicorns from extinction. Okay, I kinda want to write that one. And I’ll throw in some pandas eating ice cream while wearing bunny rabbit costumes.

You get the idea. Whatever the word “happy” means to you right now, put it on paper. Then add some more happy.

Until next time, Ducky

Rubber Ducky Copywriter: Writing Prompt Friday

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday. Today is the Friday before a 3-day weekend here in the U.S. In unrelated news, I ate cookies and milk for lunch so I can get off work earlier. Feeling like an adult.

And now, on to this week’s writing prompt…

What if the sun suddenly fell from the sky?

Until next week, enjoy your cookies. Or pie. Or veggies; those are good, too. Whatever your favorite treat, stay safe and healthy.

Yours, Ducky

writing prompt friday: breaking news

Rubber Ducky Copywriter - Writing Prompt Friday

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday. Hey…wow…is it August already? When did that happen? Oooops. Looking back over the years I’ve been blogging here on Rubber Ducky Copywriter, I wish I wish I could say this is the first time that time got away from me. Hopefully, you’re doing well and staying safe and finding the right indoor/outdoor balance for you these days. Personally, I’m going feral. My social skills are questionable, but my personal hygiene skills are sharp as ever, much to the appreciation of my husband and cat. In case you haven’t noticed, this is where I ramble on until my caffeine kicks in because I’ve been waking up at 3:00 a.m. for the past several days and have given up all hope of ever getting a good night’s sleep, ever.

Yup, waiting on that sweet, sweet caffeine.

So, headlines these days are scary. For this week’s prompt, here’s one that begs (please please please please please) you to write the story for it.

Breaking News: Mermaid Caught in Fishing Net Refuses to Give Fishermen Any Slack

A-a-a-a-a-a-nd…go!

Stay safe, stay healthy.

Yours,
Rubber Ducky

P.S. If you notice changes to this post it’s because I keep having to edit and fix my mistakes. Because I need more caffeine. Good times. On to Cup #3.

P.P.S. It occurs to me that someone may think the above headline was pulled from real headlines. It wasn’t. I made it up. Not sure why I should clarify this since mermaids don’t exist, but I’d rather be honest than assume y’all know what I mean.

P.P.P.S. I just realized the Featured Image and the image at the top of the post don’t match. Am too lazy to change either. Enjoy this double-ducky day. 🙂

writing prompt friday: catching up

judgemental-cat-isjudging-lolcat

Hello, and welcome back. Yes, it’s been a while. Sorry ’bout that. Feeling rather overwhelmed to do too much outside of immediate needs. I’m sure you know what I mean. But I want to keep this up in case anything here prompts you to write something you love or that helps you find meaning or even take a timeout from reality and find some happy. Writing for the sake of writing is fun.

So, in that spirit, let’s move to a few writing prompts (because catching up is catching up… so the lolcat stops judging me).

Pick a prompt, any prompt.

Write the life story of a bookmark.

“There can be only _________.”

Start with “This twilight, the sun decided to linger a little longer.” End with “And the world went to sleep.

Write a 500-word story in which you use the phrase “My left sock ran away” six times.

“Feel how I feel, think how I think, just don’t _________.”

As always, feel free to share your writing in the comments. Stay safe. Stay healthy.

Yours, Ducky

writing prompt friday: dammit spock

Rubber Ducky Copywriter - Writing Prompt FridayHello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday. Quick update: Movers are coming tomorrow to haul heavy stuff. We’ve spent the past 2.5 weeks packing everything else. Cat’s confused. I stopped labeling boxes about 20 boxes ago. And Oreos go well with coffee for breakfast.

And now for this week’s prompt…

Captain Kirk and Spock are trapped in quarantine together.

One ate the other’s snacks.

Write the conversation.

Share your result below. Or keep it to yourself. I just hope this inspires you to write something fun.

Stay safe, Ducky
