Writing Prompt Friday (haunted)

WPF Princess Ducky

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt FridayI’m one of those Christmas-year-round kind of people (ducks as people throw tomatoes), but I love October. The chill in the air (I live in the Pacific Northwest; I get to say that already). The layers I get to wear (bring my my flannel). The start of the holiday season (for me at least). The cobwebs that make me feel less guilty about how often I skip dusting. Most of all, I love the ghost stories that abound.

On to this week’s prompt…

You’re wearing something haunted. Write its backstory.

5-minute free writing

WanderingBrainI was an art student in college. I graduated with a degree in applied design and visual arts. Became a graphic designer and web designer. I sketched a lot.

Not so much now that I’m a writer. So far, I’ve spent much of my copywriting career working alongside designers, and I’ve seen them constantly sketching. During meetings, in brainstorming sessions, at their desks—their pens and pencils skim over whatever’s handy with a steady rhythm. And in just a few minutes, they can sketch some amazing stuff.

But I rarely see fellow writers tapping out snippets of writing in the same way. We may write down ideas in little notebooks, but we let a few minutes here and there pass without second thought.

Last week, I was five minutes early for a meeting. So I followed their example and jotted down random phrases that popped in my head.

The results themselves were terrible but worth it.

Writing Prompt Friday (what if)

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt Friday! I love changes in seasons, especially if that season is fall or winter. Those are my favorites. Fall and winter signal the holidays, which are my annual Olympic-esque seasons of joy and activity. And I finally know what to wear everyday: layers. Comfy, boofy, soft layers. That I can curl up under my desk for a nap during lunch and passers by can’t recognize me…except for my nameplate. Clearly this plan has a flaw.

Now, on to this week’s prompt…

What if you were kidnapped by alien clowns on your way to the dry cleaners?

Rubber Ducky Copywriter - Writing Prompt Friday

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt FridayI’d like to take a moment to say “Thank you.” Really, thank you. I’ve been posting writing prompts regularly and you still keep coming back for them. Many of you even “Like” them. And I appreciate it. I appreciate you. I started posting prompts as a way to stay engaged with my blog even when life gets in the way of writing long posts. That you keep liking them and enjoying them have helped me keep it up. For that, I thank you. Any audience is a privilege and not to be taken for granted. Thank you for coming to visit.

Now, on to this week’s prompt…

Life had become so comfortable, it hurt.

Hello and welcome back to Writing Prompt FridayThis week is brought to you by enough coffee to power my SUV and a new batch of basic, No. 2 pencils. Not sure which I love more; both smell like hope and humanity, and both bring me joy and creativity. Then again, I also really love my SUV.

Enjoy this week’s prompt while I fix myself a third cup of coffee.
